It has been four years since the collapse of Line 12 of the Metro on Avenida Tláhuac, an incident that resulted in 26 fatalities and numerous injuries. However, justice has not yet come for the 12 victims who continue to litigate, demanding that the criminal responsibility of those involved, including the construction company Grupo Carso, be determined.
The affected reported that they obtained an injunction against Carso Infraestructura y Construcciones so that the compensations awarded be reassessed and allocated according to the economic capacity of the construction company. They pointed out that the previous compensations did not reflect the reality of the damage suffered, so they managed to obtain an injunction that obligates an analysis of the injuries suffered and to achieve comprehensive compensation.
The victims demand fair compensation and punishment for those responsible, as the past compensations proved to be insufficient and justice seems not to have been fully served. The Executive Commission for Victim Assistance and the Attorney General's Office (FGJCDMX) have been criticized for their lack of support to those affected and their alleged complicity with the construction company.
Grupo Carso, now obliged to pay fair compensation, had requested an injunction that was denied, with the ruling in its favor being an important step in the pursuit of justice for the more than 100 people affected by the tragedy. However, they have reported the slow pace of investigations and the lack of willingness on the part of authorities to deliver justice.
The victims have not ceased in their struggle for comprehensive reparation for the damage, demanding transparency in the investigations and acceleration in the corresponding penalties. Indignation persists amid the perception of impunity and the lack of complete reparation, and the victims will continue their pursuit of justice.
So far, those affected have encountered numerous difficulties in rebuilding their lives, with economic problems, physical and psychological consequences, and job uncertainty. The compensation offered by Grupo Carso, although a step forward, does not cover all the losses suffered, so the victims continue their fight in search of fair and complete compensation.
